APRIL

Intro to Longi Yoga

Sunday, April 6, 2008

1:00pm – 2:15pm

Spanda Yoga Center

906 N. Damen Ave., Chicago, IL

$12 per person

Led by Michael Stelnicki (authorized by Grand Master Dr. Maung Gyi to share his knowledge as a Practice Leader) with assistance from Christa Ojeda, this beginners workshop will introduce the student to Longi yoga which is a subset of the ancient Burmese Bando Monk system.  Longi yoga is a system of yoga that uses a rope along with hatha-style asanas to help adjust, stretch and align the body.  Whether you're an absolute beginner or more experienced student, this class will allow you to move forward no matter where  you are in your practice.

This type of yoga isn't taught at any other yoga studio in the Chicago area and is very adaptable to all skill levels.  The poses are done slowly and methodically, giving you time to really feel into your body and experience the stretch. At the same time, you can control how deep you go and if you take the time to really breath into it, believe me, you'll feel the difference the next day.

For more information about the Bando Monk system including descriptions of Letha, Longi and Dhanda yoga please go to the American Letha Yoga Society webpage at  http://americanlethayoga.us.  You'll also find information about classes in the Milwaukee area and upcoming seminars with Grand Master Dr. Maung Gyi.

If you are a beginning yoga and/or meditation student and would like to join our Chicago meet-up group please go to http://yoga.meetup.com/490/.

Monk Camp

More Information Coming Soon

An outdoor 3-day weekend event led my Grand Master Dr. Maung Gyi where you will study aspects of the Bando Monk System - a non-violent martial art focusing on non-lethal strikes and restraints.  You will also be exposed to the healing art side of the system in the form of Letha, Dhanda and/or Longyi yoga and Min Zin.

Letha yoga is an ancient Northern Burmese partner-based system developed by the Hpyu monks composing of postures, joint manipulations and massage techniques which remove toxins, improve flexibility and increase blood flow allowing the body to recuperate from hard physical training.  Dhanda yoga involves the use of a staff to assist proper alignment and posture during yoga asanas; Longi yoga makes use of a rope.  Min Zin employs breathing and mediation techniques to enhance centering, self-awareness and relaxation.

Through this training you will be developing physical, mental and spiritual discipline.  This is not a "luxurious" experience as you will be camping and asked to endure whatever discomforts result from the weather or environment.  You will be expected to be quiet during training and meditation and reduce your thoughts of "I" or "Me" as this camp is also about deepening your awareness and connectedness to all things.

You will be provided one vegetarian meal at the end of the day (you may snack on fruits and nuts during break times) at which point there will be time for discussion and celebration.
